Archives For Hike

2012_12_01_Hike_Colo_Trail_S_Platte_RiverRomeo and I hiked a part of segment 1 of the Colorado Trail.  We left from the trailhead at South Platte River and CO. 96.  The Google Earth KMZ file of our route is here, which includes images placed on the map where they were taken.  The images are also in the slideshow below.

I was hiking in shorts and a long-sleeve t-shirt in sunny, but breezy conditions, which were very mild for December.

Sue and I did a fall hike recently and I’ve included images below.  We were a bit past peak, unfortunately, but still, we got some good colors.  Here’s the GPX file of our hike.

It ended up being shorter than we wanted because of rain. We managed to find some shelter for our lunch break in the biathlon building, where I use to spend a lot of time back when I did biathlons.  Unfortunately, the local radar on my phone revealed pretty much constant rain the rest of the day.  We don’t have a rain coat for Romeo, which means he would have been wet, cold and miserable.  He hates being wet and cold. If it were just Sue and I, we had our rain gear and would have continued.

Sue and I took Romeo last week and did a 2-hour hike at Alderfer/Three Sisters Open Space in Evergreen.  I took pictures, but then accidentally deleted them, so don’t have any to share.  An image of our hike route is below.  The link to the GPX file is here.

Odds & Ends

Here’s a bunch of nature images I’ve captured over the last month around the house.  It includes, flowers, bugs, birds and snakes.

We did an easy hike over Memorial Day weekend up at Snow Mountain Ranch. Its a YMCA of the Rockies facility between Tabernash and Granby, Colorado. I uploaded the GPS track and included details about the hike on Wikiloc and Everytrail.

Photos below include the hike and other walking around that we did. We took the dogs. The German Shepherd is Juno, a blind-assistance dog in training that we are taking care of for a few weeks while its owner is away. She is 6 months old and loves the water.

The weather was perfect, with mostly sun and some clouds and a little breezy. We went up on Friday before the start of the weekend to avoid traffic and crowds.
