Walmart finally coming on strong as a formidable competitor to Amazon. But there is another tidbit in here that is more important for consumer product startups to take note. Walmart is using its data on consumers from online and in-store sales. Why is this important? Startups want to sell online in a big way and direct-to-consumer where they can track who is buying what, when and from where, so that when they approach to sell on Walmart.com or in Walmart stores, they have data to show what sells, how it sells (marketing messaging and ads), who it sells to (demographic data) and where it sells (geographic data). This will give them a leg up when talking to Walmart category buyers
