This demonstrates the potential for blockchain technology (which powers digital currencies) to be used to track the integrity of food. And it is being done in Russia. The U.S. beef industry is light years behind and it is very difficult to find out where your meat comes from, unless you purchase direct from small ranchers who really know their cattle, which is what I do. Why is this important? I think the biggest opportunity and potential for impact in the U.S. food industry is to track the entire journey of food, which would increase safety, integrity and transparency. Blockchain can do that very well, although I think it is the easiest part. The hard part and expensive part is installing sensors and tracking devices.
